Join us for a day of festivities to celebrate the opening of the Ascutney Outdoors Center! Home of Ascutney Outdoors and home base for all trail activities on the mountain.
Come by early for an outdoor activity (details below) or to walk the property and see the new facilities.
The dedication ceremony starts at 3:00 p.m. at the Outdoors Center. Participants will have an opportunity to name the new T-bar lift (bring an idea, or vote for your favorite name).
Live music will follow and run to 8 p.m. featuring Erik Boedtker, Johnny O, and the Rick Davis band with Peter Zipfel. Bring a picnic or taste the Moonlighters famous fare for free (donations welcome but not required).
PRE- CEREMONY ACTIVITIES:
1:00-2:00 p.m. GUIDED HIKE – Meet at the AOC to join a nature hike that takes us deep into the forest, through beautiful fields, and even past a waterfall! This hike is for intermediate hikers, as it includes meandering up and down hills and on boardwalks. We leave from the AOC and use the following trails: Wind Up, Last Mile, Deer Run, The Falls, Hay Ride and Home Again to the AOC. Contact for questions: email@example.com
1:00-2:00 p.m. NATURE FLOW YOGA CLASS – Come celebrate the Grand Opening with this 60 minute outdoor yoga flow class. We’ll enjoy the beauty of our mountain while using our breath to guide our movements. Class is FREE and open to all abilities. Some mats will be provided. Meet at 1 pm on the porch of the Outdoors Center and we’ll walk to our yoga practice location. Contact for questions: firstname.lastname@example.org
9:30-11:00 a.m. TRAIL RIDE – Bring your horse and join us for a pleasure trail ride at Ascutney Mountain in conjunction with the Grand Opening. Riders will meet in the main parking lot on Ski Tow Road. The ride will begin with a briefing at 9:30 a.m. and will end at the parking lot by 11:00. Riders are encouraged to rejoin us later for the Dedication then celebration starting at 3 pm. For more information please contact Barbara Gerstner at (802) 484-3747.
1:00-2:30 p.m. GUIDED NATURE PLAY FOR CHILDREN – A short walk to a wooded area near the AOC will begin our exploration as we build forts and fairy houses, turn over logs to search for critters, play in the dirt, collect small treasures from nature, and enjoy the mountain. Young children ages 3 to 8 and their parents or caregivers are welcome to join us. We’ll meet at the AOC and enjoy 90 minutes of being curious, getting a little bit dirty, and mostly having fun in nature! Please be prepared for the weather of the day with boots and layers, a raincoat and rain pants, and/or a sunhat or warm hat, and bring your own drink/water. 1:00 – 2:30 GUIDED MOUNTAIN BIKE RIDE – Bring your mountain bike and enjoy a 5+ mile ride through some intermediate, single track terrain. We’ll pace the ride to the group and enjoy some views, fields and woods, and a fun, winding descent down the new trails at the ski area. We’ll meet at the tubing lift building at the end of the Ski Tow Road parking lot to start our ride. Please bring your bike in good shape, appropriate clothing, water and some good energy.
